How to

Propose and Make it Special

Planning the Perfect Proposal

on the Isle of Skye

If you are thinking about proposing here are some tips and ideas that might help you:

01.

Make your Proposal Special

When you are thinking about how to propose have a plan. You will be asked time and time again what happened so make sure you have a story to tell. It doesn’t have to be an expensive meal or occasion but it should be somewhere memorable, maybe a place special to you both. Think about what you will wear so that you don’t blend into the background for your photos.

02.

Have Something to Say

Apart from the obvious “Will you marry me?” it’s really nice to say something about why you want to marry them and what it would mean to you if they say yes. To be honest, if you get on one knee, they probably won’t be listening but having some words shows you have thought about it!

03.

Get Your Timing Right

The how to propose bit is almost the easiest part… on one knee with a ring in your hand, but if your intended is distracted, in a hurry or having some family issues it may not be the right time. You don’t want them to feel overwhelmed at the prospect of arranging a wedding or how to tell the family.

04.

Do I have to get on one knee?

Obviously, you don’t have to get on one knee if you can’t physically manage it, but it is internationally recognised. It may seem old fashioned but we haven’t seen anyone hate it!   Two knees is begging… not a good look!

05.

The Ring

Don’t worry too much about the perfect ring. There is no need to go into debt or drive yourself crazy with worry about whether they will like it. It can be better make a gesture and then include a promise of a shopping trip if you know your partner has specific tastes.

06.

Get the location right

Crowded restaurants can be awkward, and hiding rings in food is often a recipe for disaster. Try thinking about a special place, or a holiday destination or somewhere with an incredible view. Don’t use someone else’s party or wedding – they won’t want to be overshadowed, and if you are going for a crowd situation make sure they are most likely to say yes.

Your treasured memories
